CERTIFICATE OF RELIGIOUS PRACTICE

In view of the Supreme Court ruling in respect of Jewish schools, Yavneh College is no longer able to give priority according to Jewish status.  Instead, the School will give priority to those who meet a religious practice test based on guidelines from the Chief Rabbi.

Those applicants wishing to be considered as priority applicants for available places need to obtain a certificate establishing religious practice, based on the child's synagogue attendance, Jewish education and/or family communal activity.  Please see the link below entitled ‘Yavneh College Certificate of Religious Practice (CRP).’
Only synagogue attendance from 8 May 2010 – 16 October 2010 will be relevant.  Applicants are strongly advised to contact a synagogue as soon as possible to establish what they need to do to be able to demonstrate attendance and get the CRP signed.
If sections 2 and 3 of the CRP need to be completed, applicants must make the necessary arrangements to ensure verification of the CRP by the individuals concerned.
It should be noted that the CRP does not confirm that the child is Jewish in accordance with Jewish law.

Application Process Summary Year 7 2011

FORMS REQUIRED BY YAVNEH COLLEGE

The admissions process for entry to Year 7 in September 2011 requires all applicants, including siblings and pupils attending feeder primary schools, to complete a Yavneh College Certificate of Religious Practice (CRP) and a Supplementary Information Form (SIF). Applicants also have to refer to the document describing the Jewish Ethos of Yavneh College. All of these documents are available through the links below.

The SIF and CRP must be completed and returned to Yavneh College by 22 October 2010. All applicants will first be ranked according to whether or not they have achieved 3 points in accordance with the Yavneh College CRP. In the event of oversubscription, all applicants will then be ranked according to our published admissions criteria.

SECONDARY TRANSFER FORM

As well as the CRP and SIF, all applicants must also complete the Secondary Transfer Form (STF) for the Local Authority in which they live i.e. if you live in Barnet, Harrow, etc you complete the STF for that Local Authority even though Yavneh College is a Hertfordshire school.

The STF asks you to rank the schools of your choice in preference order.  We strongly advise that if you wish to send your child to Yavneh College, you should rank Yavneh College as your first choice on the STF.

GENERAL INFORMATION

In the past it has been difficult to secure a place at Yavneh College unless you lived fairly nearby the school.  The recent opening of another Jewish secondary school in London has increased the number of places available in the Jewish secondary school system and families who live further away have been successful in obtaining  places at Yavneh College this year, a trend we expect to continue

SEN APPLICATIONS

Parents of children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs are advised to apply through their Local Authority’s Special Educational Needs team.  This is to ensure that the correct consultation procedure between parents, school, and SEN team at the Local Authority can take place.  In accordance with the law, Yavneh College will admit pupils with Statements of Special Educational Needs that name the school.

We also ask that a SIF and CRP are completed for SEN applications.
